Levon Helm’s “Electric Dirt” is the follow-up to his 2007 release, “Dirt Farmer” – his first solo release in a quarter century. Following Helm’s near miraculous recovery from throat cancer, both albums have begun a new phase in the life of the man who became well-known as drummer for The Band, as well as Levon and The Hawks.
“Dirt Famer” was a criticial and commercial success, and major award winning album, winning the 2008 Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Recording. Levon Helm was also named Artist of The Year by the Americana Music Association. Also, Rolling Stone Magazine hailed Helm’s “Midnight Ramble”, a monthly jam at The Barn at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, as 2008’s Best Jam Session.
The 11 tracks feature the same core crew of Midnight Ramble regulars that played on Dirt Farmer and subsequently went out on the road with Helm. “Electric Dirt” again finds Levon steeped in tradition in his connection to the land and those who live by it, going even deeper and incorporating gospel, blues and soul elements in a bracing collection of originals and carefully chosen outside songs.

Martina McBride is back with a rock solid offering called Shine. If you've heard the first single called "Ride," then you have some idea of what this CD has to offer. The CD starts off with a slow pop jam called "Wrong Baby Wrong Baby Wrong." When a relationship ends, you might feel as though you'll never love again. Well, as the song says, "you're wrong baby." Probably the most powerful and emotional song on this CD is called "I'm Trying." It's a slow song about a man with an addiction to the drink and the woman who still believes in him and what they have together. This isn't another 'crying in your beer' song. This is about opening up your heart, and baring your soul to the one you love, and Martina sings it with honest emotion and conviction. Anyone who is a Martina McBride fan will love this new CD.

Alecia Nugent’s 2004 breakthrough album, “A Litte Girl… A Big Four Lane” earned her the nickname “Hillbilly Goddess”, which became the title for her lastest release. She’s joined by stellar fellow artitsts, including producer Carl Jackson, duet partner Bradley Walker, J.D. Crowe, members of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Blue Highway, The Dan Tyminski Band and The Infamous Stringdusters.
On this collection, Alecia emerges as a songwriter, as well. In addition to her autobiographical “Nugent Family Band,” co-written with Dixie and Tom T. Hall, she was inspired to write the wry “Hillbilly Goddess” title tune with Sonya Kelly and her stalwart supporter Carl Jackson.
Hillbilly Goddess is major step forward from one of the great new voices in American music: Alecia Nugent.

When it comes to Classic Country, few artists have more staying power than Willie Nelson, whose 76th birthday was April 30th. From a career that began in the early 60s as a songwriter of classics including “Hello Walls”, “Night Life” (one of the most recorded songs in country music history) and the infamous “Crazy”, Willie Nelson is now known as a singer-songwriter, actor, poet, outlaw, author and activist for American farmers with his yearly Farm-Aid. This year, Willie Nelson has had two major releases: “Willie and the Wheel”, a chart-topping collaboration with Ray Benson and Asleep At The Wheel; and “Naked Willie”, a collection of seventeen songs recorded when he was signed to RCA records from 1964 through 1970. Willie and his long-time harmonica player Mickey Raphael re-mixed the original multi-track tapes to produce “Naked Willie” as Willie had always envisioned the songs, void of strings, over-production and back-up singers. Currently touring in Canada and North America, Willie Nelson is booked on the road well through the year.
