Green Day are touring in support of their eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown, which debuted at #1 in over 20 countries. Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been at work writing, arranging, and recording 21st Century Breakdown since early 2006 with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). The first single, “Know Your Enemy” reached #1 at both Alternative and Rock formats.
In its review of a show at Oakland’s Fox Theater, Rolling Stone commented that the band, augmented by guitarists Jason White and Jeff Matika, and keyboardist Jason Freese, had the “Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid” and that the album is “rock opera in which the rock always comes first.” “21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s best album,” the reviewer concluded, “and at the Fox, they proved that the rock opera can be as punk as a Clash 45.”

| Light and Heavy: The Best of Iron Butterfly | |
 |
|
Although the compilation is quite generous, featuring 21 tracks on CD, Light and Heavy:The Best of Iron Butterfly isn't all that entertaining, due to Iron Butterfly's difficulties with producing compelling material. All of the group's highlights from 1968-1970 are included, although the career-making, 17-minute "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" is presented in its three-minute single edit. Since that is the only Iron Butterfly song most listeners know, the lack of the full-length version could potentially sink the album, but the fact of the matter is, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" gets quite repetitive over the course of nearly 20 minutes. While the quality of the rest of Light and Heavy is spotty -- ranging from heavy psychedelic rock to light psychedelic pop -- it is a more intriguing listen than In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, even if it doesn't have the period-piece charm of the original hit record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

C.O.C. was one of the first punk/metal fusion bands. The band was formed in North Carolina by guitarist, Woody Weatherman, in the early 80’s and became known for their aggressive sound, intelligent political lyrics and willingness to break away from conventional hard core metal.
After an initial band breakup and their label Death dropping the band due to constant internal instability, subsequent reincarnation’s of C.O.C. spawned the powerful 1991 release of “Blind”, the Sabbath-esque “Deliverance” in 1994, and the expansion of their radio success with the 1996 release of “Wiseblood.”
After another band break-up, C.O.C. regrouped in April of ’05 and released the hard-hitting and complex In The Arms of God.”

For a brief moment, Quiet Riot was a rock and roll phenomenon. The Los Angeles based band became an overnight sensation with the release of their smash hit LP, “Metal Health.”
The road to fame however was tumulus and when the flames of stardom started to die out, their fall from graces was accelerated by their lead singer, Kevin Dubrow, whose poisonous public comments completely alienated him from his fans, fellow musicians and ultimately his own band mates.
The band throughout it’s rise and fall was fraught with turmoil, legal battles and tragedy, losing their former drummer and friend, Randy Rhoades in a plane crash at age 25. Dubrow’s life was also sadly cut short, and at age 52 in November of last year, was discovered dead in his Las Vegas apartment.

The Austin-based four-piece played their first show in December 2007 and immediately signed a deal with Justice Records.
Before their self-titled debut album even hit stores last August, ELECTRIC TOUCH rocked the stages of Coachella, Bonnaroo, SXSW, Lollapalooza and The Austin City Limits Festivals in addition to completing a US tour with The Fratellis and The Airborne Toxic Event last fall. As 2009 opened, the band debuted at 1 on FMQB’s Commercial Specialty SubModern chart with their new single, “Sounds From The Underground”, beating out The Killers, Kings of Leon and Franz Ferdinand, among others.
Currently the band is already confirmed to perform at this year’s SXSW Music Festival in March as well as the famed desert festival, Coachella, in April with more festival appearances expected to be announced shortly.
